Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov is one of the leading, oldest and the largest classical University  of Russian Federation. In 1755 the Empress Elizabeth Petrovna inaugurated Moscow State University. In January 2005, Moscow State University celebrated its 250th anniversary. Moscow State University is the center of science and culture. The Moscow State University has over 600 buildings, including the main building on the Sparrow Hills, whose total area is about 1 million square meters. MoscowStateUniversity includes 15 research institutes, 40 faculties , more than 300 departments and 5 branches (including four overseas). The Moscow State University has about 35,000 students in under graduate and graduate, 5,000 doctoral candidates and 10 thousand students in preparatory departments, a total of about 50 thousand people. Faculties and research centers of Moscow State University employs 4,000 professors and teachers and about 5,000 researchers.  Moscow State University has its branches in Sevastopol, Pushchino, Chernoholovtsi, Astana (Kazakhstan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan). In 1988 Moscow State University operated a branch in Ulyanovsk, which was later released into Ulyanovsk State University in 1995. Since 1946 Moscow State University has trained more than 11,000 highly qualified specialists for 150 foreign countries. Every year Moscow State University trains more than 2 thousand undergraduate and graduate students from many countries. Currently in Moscow State University there are more than 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students, doctoral students, and professionals in the training.
