Buryat State University is a higher education institution and one of the leading educational and scientific centers of Siberia and the Far East of Russia in the city of Ulan-Ude. Buryat State University was founded in 1932 as a Buryat State Pedagogical Insitute. In 1995 Buryat State University was formed on the basis of Buryat State Pedagogical Insitute and branch of the Novosibirsk State University in Ulan-Ude. Buryat State University has the largest scientific potential in the Baikal region. The Buryat State University has developed the leading scientific schools in the field of condensed matter physics, botany, ornithology, history, sociology, philosophy, literature, linguistics and pedagogy. Throughout its history, Buryat State University has trained more than 55,000 highly qualified specialists. At present Buryat State University has 71 departments and 22 research units where about 150 doctors and professors, 590 candidates of sciences and associate professors are trained about 10,000 students on 113 directions and specialties, including 105 higher profession education courses, 40 specialties, 44 undergraduate and 21 master degree programs.
